Newport, RI is one of my favorite places for a weekend getaway. It’s the perfect mix of coastal vibes, New England flare, and a beach town, all rolled into one. This was my second time visiting Newport, both times for a bachelorette. Below are some of my favorite shops, bars, restaurants, and areas to stay!
Where to Stay
Both times I stayed in a rental house, and it is definitely may favorite way to stay here. If possible, I would recommend a place on Thames St. It is the Main Street where all the activity in Newport centers. The benefit of being in a home rental is the flexibility of having a space to share with friends, get ready to go out together, and hang out in a common space. There are also dozens of super cute hotels and Bed & Breakfasts to chose from, if you prefer!
Where to Eat
Breakfast/Lunch: Drift Cafe is my absolutely favorite place for breakfast. They have everything from sandwiches to smoothies, açaí bowls, and breakfast bowls. The coffee is amazing, the space is super fun to enjoy your coffee and breakfast in, and the staff is so friendly. Be prepared to wait a bit, as it’s super popular, but I promise it’s worth it!
Dinner: The Clark Cooke House: An iconic spot in Newport, with incredible food. It has an old school vibe, amazing cocktails, fish, and steak. I recommend ordering a few things for the table and sharing! The wood grilled filet mignon is out of this world! Note: They do have a dress code, nothing crazy, just take a peak before booking a reservation!
Cocktails: The Roof Deck at the Vanderbilt offers amazing views and delicious drinks, including a few amazing mocktails. Be sure to order the soft pretzel too!
Where to Play:
I have two favorite activities in Newport and recommend doing both if you can!
Sailing Cruise: from the Wharf, grab either a sunset or morning sailing cruise. I have done both, and either is amazing, just think of the weather and your group when picking a time. The cruises are a great way to see the historic mansions and get amazing views of downtown Newport.
Scooter World Rental: Once you‘re in Newport you’ll start to see people driving around in tiny 3 wheeled green cars, with little flags sticking up in the back. It looks ridiculous but I promise it is the most fun way to see the coast. We took ours along the ocean and had an absolute blast. If you do nothing else, rent the minicars!
